Art News Ramallah
Art News Ramallah is a project that begun when Harald Bredholt received the Ramallah culural stipend [Kulturstipend Ramallah] from Trondheim Municipality in 2022. This stipend seeks to strengthen the cultural and collaborative bonds between Trondheim, Norway and Ramallah, Palestine as sister cities. Initially, the idea was to travel to Ramallah to make a documentary there about various video artists, but these travels were delayed, and on 7th of October 2023 Israel’s war in Gaza began, which made it harder to travel there.
Instead, the project has turned into what for now is a homepage (but it will eventually be a printed magazine as well) presenting contemporary artists and performers from Ramallah and the wider region of Palestine. The idea is to let the artworks be accompanied by texts from everyday life, so that people will know what everyday life looks like in Palestine, now as well as before the current conflict. Gradually, the amount of artists presented here, will expand and show the vibrancy and diversity of expressions present in the Ramallah art scene. The resulting online collection of images and texts of a wide range of artists from the region will in time hopefully be able to function as a living moving archive over Palestinian art and culture, the conservation of which now seems more important than ever.
Art News Ramallah and Harald Bredholt wants to thank Trondheim Municipality for their generous support for this project, and especially Monica Stendahl Rokne for her understanding, her guidance and her support. A huge thank you also to Fidaa Ataya, who is also one of the artists featured here in Art News Ramallah. Fidaa have been suggesting who the contributing artists could be, as well as establishing the contact to the other artists featured here. The project would not have been possible without her. A huge thank you also to storyteller and artist Lise Marie Nedergaard for suggesting Fidaa as a contact person for the project.
